Part 1: White

If you've booked a Pensacola Beach photography session, one of the first questions you'll probably ask is, "What should we wear?" As a Pensacola Beach photographer serving families, couples, and vacationers throughout the Gulf Coast, this is the number one question I receive before a session. It’s a great question! I have a lot of clientele from out of state, and they are paying money and taking the time to preserve a moment for their family. Of course, they want to know what will look good. My personal philosophy about clothing for a Florida beach photoshoot is simple: ANYTHING BUT BLACK! The contrast with the white beach sand is harsh and unflattering. Black also absorbs heat, causing you to be sweaty and uncomfortable. Black clothing separates the subject from the beauty of the coastal palette of emerald water, white sand, and soft pastel skies. In bright conditions, black fabric loses texture and detail, making the clothing look shapeless and unflattering.

I thought it would be helpful to give you examples of colors my clients have worn to these beach photoshoots, and maybe this will help you decide what to wear! The color choices we will be reviewing are white, red/pink, yellow/orange, green/blue, neutrals, pastels, and patterns. So let’s begin!

WHITE:

A classic choice, white has an aesthetic that is clean and timeless. Color choices can date a picture (‘80’s aqua and pink anyone??) whereas white complements every season and setting while never going out of style. Acting as a natural reflector, white clothing bounces light back onto the skin, creating a luminous quality that complements every skin tone. Here are a few examples of clients who chose to wear white for their photo session:
